The St. Edward's women lost their nine-game shutout streak Saturday against UT-Permian Basin; winning 9-1 probably took some of the sting out of that. The 12-0-2 Hilltoppers have still only allowed three goals all season... The St. Ed's men (10-3-1) split a pair on the weekend. Both teams take their national rankings on the road this weekend.

The UT Longhorns got a good road win last weekend, 2-0 over Stephen F. Austin (14-3-1); the Horns finish the regular season Friday night in Lubbock, against nationally ranked Texas Tech, before heading into the Big 12 tournament, Nov. 6-10 in Kansas City, Mo. – the first time this century that the tournament hasn't been in San Antonio.

It took until the final goal of the final regular season game – into the wee hours Monday morning – for the MLS playoff picture to be settled, as the L.A. Galaxy edged past the Seattle Sounders to take third place in the Western Conference, and send Seattle into a play-in game with Colorado (on as we go to press). The Houston Dynamo edged in on the final day as well; they host Montreal in the Eastern Conference play-in game, 7:30pm Thursday on NBCSN. The playoffs proper begin this weekend in Salt Lake City, Portland, Kansas City, and New York.

Over in Europe, Champions League play continues this Tuesday-Wednesday (various games televised; 1:30pm each day), while the countdown continues to the final World Cup qualifiers, taking place Nov. 13-19.
