There's an interesting special screening this week: Rise & Shine: The Jay Demerit Story, a documentary about U.S. national team defender Jay DeMerit and his "journey from the bottom – playing in Sunday park leagues and lower level division London clubs earning 40 pounds a week – to playing in the English Premier League, to starting in the 2010 World Cup," with appearances by Stuart Holden, Tim Howard, Wayne Rooney, Landon Donovan, and others. For more, see Film Listings. Two days only: Thu., Nov. 3, and Wed., Nov. 9, at Barton Creek Square and Flix Brewhouse in Round Rock.

It's tournament time. The UT Longhorns beat Texas Tech, 1-0, in the first game of the Big 12 tournament Wednesday morning at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, avenging a loss in Lubbock last month and advancing to a second round match Friday at 5:30pm, likely facing nationally second-ranked Oklahoma State. The final is at 3:30pm Sunday; tournament games are streamed live at www.big12sports.com. At 11-7-1, the Horns might have to win out to make the NCAAs... The St. Edward's women (13-2-1) are in the Heartland Conference tournament (Nov. 3-5) this Thursday and Saturday and should be in the NCAAs the next week. The St. Ed's men, at 4-8-4, end their season on the road this week at West Texas A&M and UT-Permian Basin.

The MLS playoffs are ongoing, broadcast live mostly on ESPN2, with the conference semifinals this Wednesday and Thursday, and the conference finals Sunday, Nov. 6, times TBA.
