UT vs. OU weekend, St. Ed's square off against Heartland rivals, and more

Two-dollar tickets for the Texas-OU game? That's right, and you get a free movie in the bargain. The Longhorn women (8-4, 2-2 Big 12) take on the Sooners Friday night; right after the match, UT Athletics will show Despicable Me on the video board in the stadium. Bring blankets to enjoy the movie from the field. The $2 tickets are available by advance sale only. Direct your browser to www.texasboxoffice.com and enter "MOVIE" as the promotional code. The deadline for the offer is noon Friday. UT vs. OU: Friday, Oct. 7, 7pm; San Diego State: Sunday, Oct. 9, 1pm; Mike Myers Stadium, Red River at Manor Road.

St. Edward's women play all five Heartland Conference rivals over the next three weeks, their last home games of the year. This week they host St. Mary's (Thursday, Oct. 6, 4pm), Texas A&M-International (Saturday, Oct. 8, 1pm), and UT-Permian Basin (Thursday, Oct. 13, 4pm).

Euro2012 qualifying wraps up this Friday and Tuesday, Oct. 7 and 11. Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, England, and hosts Ukraine and Poland are in, and by my count, 21 countries (including France, Greece, Portugal, Scotland, Sweden, and other heavyweights) are still in contention for the last nine spots in the 16-team field. None of those games are on TV here, but you can catch the USA hosting Honduras in a friendly, Saturday, 4:30pm on FSC.

Major League Soccer is taking a break for the international weekend. When they resume next week, there will be just about two weeks left in the regular season, with the playoff hunt looking like it could go down to the last game.
