U.S. men win first CONCACAF Gold Cup game, and more

The U.S. men were routed by Spain, 4-0, on Saturday, but bounced back to beat Canada on Tuesday, 2-0, in their first CONCACAF Gold Cup game. Fox Soccer will air the group games – USA vs. Panama, Saturday, June 11, 6:30pm, and USA vs. Guadeloupe, Tuesday, June 14, 7:30pm – plus the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the June 25 final.

The U.S. women beat Mexico, 1-0, in their final tune-up for the Women's World Cup, which starts June 26 in Germany. U.S. coach Pia Sundhage will be pleased by her team's 34-4 shot advantage, but perhaps not by their finishing.

No real surprises in this week's Euro 2012 qualifiers, the last before play resumes in the fall... The Copa Libertadores final – Brazil's Santos against Uruguay's Peñarol – is June 15 and 22, on Spanish-language TV only.
