Texas Stars Movember
The Texas Stars grow 'staches to raise funds to fight cancer
By Mark Fagan, Fri., Nov. 19, 2010
Here in Austin we appreciate creative, unique, and fun facial hair; for evidence, look no further than the Austin Facial Hair Club or any concert at local indie rock venue Mohawk. Facial hair also plays an important role in sports. Rollie Fingers' handlebar mustache, Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s just-a-'stache, and Walt Frazier's sideburns are all hall-of-famers in the world of sports facial hair. In hockey, "playoff beards" are an integral part of any championship run. There's even a "playoff beard" Wikipedia entry, so you know it's for real (but beware the playoff beard beanie). Our own Texas Stars hockey club is taking part in Movember, a global campaign raising awareness and funds to fight cancers that affect men, such as prostate cancer. Fans can submit pics of their 'staches on the Stars Facebook page and/or follow the facial hair growth of their favorite players. If you don't wanna grow a 'stache but still want to contribute, donate at us.movember.com/mospace/1060426. See all of the Stars' glorious facial hair stylings in action as they host the Houston Aeros: Wed., Nov. 24, 7:30pm. Cedar Park Center, 2100 Avenue of the Stars, Cedar Park, 512/600-5000. $10-50. www.texasstarshockey.com.
