Big weekend for Longhorns, New rival for Aztex?

Sandwiched around the Aztex game (see left), the Texas Longhorns have their first Big 12 home games this weekend, hosting Texas Tech Friday and Baylor Sunday, both at 7pm, Oct. 8 & 10, at Mike Myers Stadium, Red River at Manor. Friday is movie night – Kung Fu Panda on the pitch after the game – and there's a $3 Web coupon for Sunday. The Horns are still winless in the Big 12 after falling 1-0 at Kansas on Sunday, but 7-3-2 overall after getting a hat trick from sophomore Kristin Cummins to beat UW-Milwaukee 4-3 on Friday.

Soccer fan sites are buzzing with the NASL announcement Monday of a Division 2 team starting up in San Antonio in 2012. It's the dream rivalry for the Aztex, though of course, huge questions remain regarding the league's reorganization and accreditation. Expect answers from the U.S. Soccer Federation in fairly quick order after the D-2 playoffs end Oct. 30.

Euro 2012 qualifiers this coming Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday, Oct. 8, 9, 12: some 45 games involving all 51 European nations. Which brings us to this week's geography quiz: Can you name half of those European "nations" without looking at a map? How about all 51, even looking at maps? It might be harder than you'd think. Meanwhile, the U.S. plays Poland in a friendly at 7pm Saturday.
