Next-to-last chance to see your
2006 Lady Longhorns! The Horns ran their record to 12-3-1 with a pair of wins last week. First they thoroughly dominated Sam Houston State Friday night, 7-0, getting goals from seven different players, and outshooting the Bearkats, 46-3. And on Sunday afternoon in Lincoln, UT fell behind in the 13th minute but came back to beat Nebraska, 2-1, with
Caitlin Kennedy and
Kelsey Carpenter combining on both goals. The game marked the Horns' seventh road win of the season, a school record. It was also their last road trip of the season; all that's left now are three home conference games. Two of them are this weekend:
7pm Friday, Oct. 20, against Missouri, and
noon Sunday, Oct. 22 against Iowa State. $7 admission; $1 Friday with a Web coupon (see
austinchronicle.com/soccerwatch). UT then ends the season the next weekend, hosting Texas A&M, who are eighth-ranked in the nation, and undefeated and untied in the Big 12. That showdown is at 7pm Friday, Oct. 27.
With games this midweek, the European Champions League is now halfway through; see full results online. In the highlight matchup, Chelsea edged Barcelona, 1-0, in London; they'll meet again in the Catalan capital in two weeks. The Londoners had third-string keeper Henrique Hilario in goal, after starter Petr Cech suffered a fractured skull on Saturday against Reading.
