Good movies, good cause: LunaFest lands in town to raise cash for The Breast Cancer Fund.

You Go, FilmGrrrl Dept.: Promising an "engaging night of animation, documentaries, and independent voices," local femme-film group Reel Women is sponsoring the touring mini-film fest LunaFest, an evening of films by, for, and about women and benefiting the Breast Cancer Fund, Thursday, Nov. 7, 7pm, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown (409 Colorado). In addition to the six short films on the tour, several local filmmakers screen their work, including Carol Wagner and Teresa Davidson ("No Flamingos") and Erin Randall ("Shoe Stalkers"). A post-party at the neighboring B-Sides lounge is also included in the (way cheap) $7 ticket cost. Open to all, regardless of breastitude, and highly recommended. Check out their Web site at www.lunabar.com/lunafest/lunafest.html for more information or to make a donation to the fund... Alleywood Studios (1920 S. Congress) and C.K. McFarland have a brace of new classes on the fall schedule, covering pretty much every aspect of the acting sphere: "On Camera Film Acting" is enrolling now for their upcoming sessions on Mondays, Nov. 4-Dec. 16, 7-10pm, or Wednesdays, Nov. 6-Dec. 18, 7-10pm. Classes are limited to 10 thesps per session, so enroll now, or face the tragic consequences of indecision later. Running Tuesdays, Nov. 5-Dec. 17, 7-9:30pm, is Alleywood's "The Creative Actor" class, which promises to teach "where your film or stage presence comes from and how your own personal power differs from the power of a character." Yow. All classes are seven weeks long and run $195 (payment plans available). For more info contact McFarland at 441-3738 or e-mail [email protected]... Got a short film in the can but don't have anywhere to screen your glory? Local mini-fest Flicker Austin still has several spots open in their program for the upcoming Flicker #11, which will take place Tuesday, Nov. 19 (not Nov. 12, as previously reported), 9:45pm, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown. All genres are welcome as long as submissions originate on film and are under 15 minutes in length. Films should be mailed to Flicker Austin, 7907 Doncaster, Austin, TX 78745. Deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Check 'em out online at www.flickeraustin.com.
