The New Topfer Theatre at Zach Scott

photo by Sandy Carson, posted Oct. 4, 2012. #5 of 11 photos.

The view of the 420-seat James C. Armstrong Family Auditorium from the Karen Kuykendall Stage, named for the dearly departed actress/cabaret singer/diva, a member of Austin royalty who first performed with Zach in 1959 when it was still a community theatre (Austin Civic Theatre). More recently, she starred in numerous Zach productions (Full Gallop, Angels in America, And the World Goes Round, to name a few) and was informed of the naming of the stage in her honor shortly before her death in 2007. Her ashes were incorporated into the stage foundation at center stage, and the spot is marked by a star.
