Travis County Deputy Sheriff Jessica Hollis was laid to rest Wednesday after a ceremony at Hill Country Bible Church, where mourners gathered to honor the seven-year TCSO veteran who was swept away last week in a flash flood, as she was checking a low-water crossing in Northwest Austin.

The hits keep coming for accused pot brownie baker Jacob Lavoro. Last week, the 19-year-old Williamson County native was cited for speeding and failure to show his driver's license, and further charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Lavoro's currently awaiting trial for second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance.

Gov. Rick Perry continues to have a casual relationship with facts: In a weekend interview, he tried to defend the ambulatory surgical center requirement in Texas abortion law HB 2 by claiming Joan Rivers' death might have been prevented had she not had the botched procedure in a "clinic." Turns out, Rivers was treated at an ASC — not a clinic.

Attorney General Greg Abbott is under fire after arguing during Friday's gubernatorial debate against state Sen. Wendy Davis that he's required by state law to appeal the recent decision ruling Texas' school finance system unconstitutional. In fact, Abbott is allowed to settle if the Legislature approves the agreement.

GOP political strategist and Abbott supporter Matt Mackowiak saw sharp criticism for describing abortion in cases of rape and incest as "minor issues" when asked in a recent interview if the procedure should be legal in these cases. Abbott has yet to denounce Mackowiak's statement.

Child Protective Services has launched an internal review in the wake of the death of toddler Colton Turner, and said it's likely to take disciplinary action. CPS had investigated the boy's mother, Meagan Work, for abuse multiple times but never removed Colton from her custody.

Special prosecutor Michael McCrum accused Rick Perry of "asking for special favors" and "making a mockery of our system of justice" after the governor's lawyers requested that he be excused from attending his Oct. 13 pretrial hearing. Perry has plans to be in Europe on that date.
