Tonight (Thursday) is the Save Our Springs Alliance's annual "Soul of the City" benefit concert, featuring Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, at La Zona Rosa (see ad p.33).

Friday, Oct. 25, the Central Texas ACLU will feature Karen Heikkala of the Drug Policy Forum of Texas in a discussion of Texas drug laws and prisons at the Marimont Cafeteria on 38th just off of Guadalupe. 5:30-6:30pm. For more info, call Ruth Epstein at 459-5829.

Ten years ago, Trinity United Methodist Church became a "reconciling congregation" and publicly welcomed gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons into the fold. Trinity is celebrating the anniversary this weekend with a dance, Friday, Oct. 25, 7-11pm at the church, 600 E. 50th, and a celebratory service on Sunday at 10:30am -- to be held at Congregation Agudas Achim at the Dell Jewish Community Campus, 7300 Hart. At least some local environmentalists will be heading to San Antonio Wednesday, Oct. 30, where the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is holding a public hearing on its proposals to designate critical habitat for nine endangered, cave-dwelling invertebrate species in Central Texas. The hearing is at SA's Reagan High School (on the north side, off FM 1604 just west of U.S. 281), 7-9pm.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, investigative journalist and former Chronicle staffer Robert Bryce will speak at 7pm about his new book Pipe Dreams: Greed, Ego and the Death of Enron at CPE 2.204 (on 26th just east of Speedway) on the UT campus. Call Robert Jensen at 471-1990 to learn more.
