VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED for the first Riverside Sanctuary Work Day. The sanctuary is a small natural climbing and bouldering area behind the hospital in Georgetown, TX. The main goal of the work day is to improve the area for climbing, but climbing will be held afterwards. Sat, March 15, 10am-1pm. 863-5514.

THE ANNUAL SPRING SHOW & SALE of the First Austin African Violet Society, will be held at the Austin Area Botanical Garden Center, 2220 Barton Springs Rd. The show is judged, and the sale features both plants and supplies. Sat & Sun, March 15 & 16, 10am-4:30pm.

THE 12TH ANNUAL GEORGETOWN QUILT & STITCHERY SHOW will be held at the Georgetown Community Center, San Gabriel Park, in Georgetown, TX. The show offers a rare look at some of the area's finest antique and new quilts, wall hangings, stitchery works, and more. Demonstrations will also be featured. AN ANTIQUES SHOW will be held this weekend in Bellville, TX, to be held in the historic buildings at the Fairgrounds. Bellville is located on Hwy 36, between Sealy and Brenham. Sat & Sun, March 15 & 16, 409-865-5618.

THE AUSTIN CHAPTER OF TX CURE (Texans United for the Rehabilitation of Errants) will be held at Huston-Tillotson College, 900 Chicon, Rm. 200, Jackson-Moody Humanities Bldg. The group will address, "What Can I Do to Bring Reason, Healing, and Rehabilitation to this Multi-Billion Dollar Industry" (referring to the Texas prison system, the largest in the world). THE TENTH ANNUAL WINE TASTING AND SILENT AUCTION of the Mary Lee Foundation will be held at the Four Season Hotel, 98 San Jacinto. Proceeds will benefit the foundation's Therapeutic Children's Summer Camp Program (a non-profit agency). $30 advance, $35 at the door. Thu, March 20, 6-9pm. 443-5777 or 870-6838.

A TECHNICAL WRITING CONTEST is currently underway for eligible students, sponsored by the Society of Technical Communications (STC-Austin). Deadline is March 22. Call for the details. 418-8151 or [email protected]

AN URBAN WALKING TOUR, sponsored by WALK Austin and other community organizations, will follow a 2.5-mile route along Lamar from 12th St. to Barton Springs Rd. and back. Participants will observe details of the street environment and come up with ideas for addressing key areas of concern. Sat, March 22, noon-3pm. 472-3470.

THE ICON RACE FOR THE ROSES, a bicycle race hosted by renowned bicyclist Lance Armstrong, will be held in Austin, beginning in Zilker Park. Three courses are offered, including a 10-mile, 25-mile, and 100-mile ride. All proceeds will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which supports testicular cancer research. Armstrong, and other celebrities, will hold an autograph session on Sat, March 22, 2-5pm, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 208 Barton Springs Rd.
