Over the course of three local releases, Ariel Abshire's career arc bears a remarkable resemblance to redheaded wonder Jenny Lewis. Where 2008 debut Exclamation Love bore stark, wistful ballads, Unresolved drops full-scale pop/rock with Western twang, much like the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman. The title cut employs electric organ whine alongside warm electric guitar chords, unleashing the album's most radio-friendly tendencies right out of the gate. The local singer-songwriter shines best on the pared-down songs that highlight her cheerful soprano. "Wedding Present" weaves conversational vocal styling and sultry sustains also in the key of country. Slow wind "I'll Never Learn" proves Abshire's early tendency toward minimalism can still drive the bus.
