We Are All Where We BelongThe spiritual melancholy that pervades Quiet Company's third recording comes quite by design. Mixed by Brit-turned-Austinite Tim Palmer, best known for mixing U2 and Pearl Jam, the five-man local band led by the aptly named Taylor Muse (Eisley) crafts rich arrangements of compelling quality and wildly varying moods ("The Easy Confidence," "You, Me & the Boatman," "Everything Louder Than Everything Else"). QC's sophomore release, 2009's Everyone You Love Will Be Happy Soon, unleashed bright, piano-driven indie rock, but Belong now suggests Okkervil River's exuberance with a hint of the Decemberists' thematic strength. Belong wraps itself around spiritual confrontation and revelation, yet within the heady universe, Muse and the muse guide the journey expertly. There's much within Quiet Company to explore.
