Ice Cream Man Presents!

Thursday's Flavor: Division Day

By Matt Allen, March 16, 2007, Music

Ah, the rock & roll portion of SXSW. Today we're parked across from the Convention Center slinging free ice cream to all the bands, fans, and industry folks who've rolled into town to party nonstop for four days (austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid%3A402882). It's a bit hectic down here with some wind and spitting rain, but nothing compared to our 30-hour drive through hundreds of miles of hail and downpour to get to Austin.

For the next four days we'll be rolling around town in Bessie, the ice cream truck gifting treats at all the best parties around town. We'll also have two Bessita's, customized Toyota Yarises, which will be dishing treats as well.

As Captain Cornelius (our Go Go Space Gorilla mascot) and I were hanging out, our friends in L.A.'s Division Day (pictured) rolled by and got hooked up with some goodies. While we were doing our thing a photographer from Rolling Stone snapped some shots of the band getting their sandwiches, drumsticks, and chocolate éclairs. Check out Division Day today, Thursday, at these parties:

Dangerbird/Polyvinyl

Mother Egan's, 12:55pm

Skewer BBQ

Maggie Mae's, 3pm

Cream Vintage Party, 6pm

If you happen to hear some ice cream truck music in between all the rock this week, follow the tunes and you'll be rewarded.
