The Go-Betweens

That Striped Sunlight Sound (Yep Roc)

"The future's so bright I'm not gonna wear shades," smiles Grant McLennan gently at the conclusion of "The Acoustic Stories" half of this two-disc set. Three months after its February release, the 48-year-old Australian died from a heart attack in his sleep, at home in Brisbane. Seventy-five minutes of McLennan and Robert Forster retracing 20 years of That Striped Sunlight Sound from Down Under to Over There and back again, with two acoustic guitars and stops in Bavaria and Portland, Ore., overshadow a complete concert from the night before and its full audio complement on CD. Light another candle for McLennan's suede songcraft. ***
