Bonus Tracks
Fri., July 21, 1995
(Dejadisc)
A 76-minute catalogue sampler that reminds you just how many quality Austin records San Marcos' Dejadisc has released since 1992: 14. Butch Hancock romances "Belle Starr" from the Jo Carol Pierce tribute Across the Great Divide, David Rodriguez impales himself on the title track to his True Cross, and helping the Wannabes break up the singer-songwriter stranglehold are a couple bonus tracks from Roky Erickson and the Skunks that are found on the new and long-out-of-print Live at Raul's album. - Raoul Hernandez
CORPUS CHRISTI COMPILATION
(Total Fucking Chaos)
What is it about sun, sand, and surf that pisses people off so much? First it was Epitaph's surf punk on speed; now it looks like the beaches of Corpus are in for a good shelling. Total Fucking Chaos brings you CCC, featuring Slug Bug, Dry Heave, Black Milk, and other bands, and catchy titles like "Fucked up Shit" and "Killa by Nature." Maybe what irks them are all the military base closings, but more likely it's this record's shit production job. There's some real talent here (especially the hardcore bands), so hopefully the proceeds from this record will go to buy some better recording equipment. - Chris Gray
WELCOME TO HELL'S LOBBY: A TIP-TOE THROUGH THE DENTON UNDERGROUND
(One Ton)
Some people's noise may be another's local scene. Compiling 17 of Denton's loudest bands, Hell's Lobby... ranges from the mediocre to the maniacally inspired. From the record's opening trio of best-knowns and best bets (Brutal Juice, Baboon, and Caulk) to Slobberbone's country-tinged finish, there's enough quirk and jangle bleeding through the loudness to make this more rewarding than just a tribute to an artsier Pantera. - Andy Langer
