Austin Playhouse

405 W 22nd, 512/476-0084
Following stints in a South Austin office complex and a field in the Mueller development, Austin Playhouse moved its mix of classic and contemporary drama into Highland Mall as most tenants were moving out. Though the mall is now an Austin Community College campus, the 200-seat Playhouse remains in its renovated storefront, staging musicals such as Chicago, Man of la Mancha, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas; vintage drama by the likes of Wilde, Chekhov, and Shakespeare; and new works by playwrights such as Tom Stoppard, David Ives, and Austinites Cyndi Williams and C. Denby Swanson.
