The 2014 Food Issue

We don't have the statistics in front of us, but we're fairly certain humans spend as much time thinking about food as they do sex, so Valentine's Day seemed like an especially apt time to unveil our second annual Food Issue. Herein, you'll find stories about competitive eating, entomophagy, band tour diets, the art of food photography, the food forest movement, and much, much more.

The bedrock of the Food Issue is our 2014 First Plates Awards, which culls our critics' picks for the best and buzziest Austin restaurants, grouped by neighborhood. Because no matter where you are, there's always a great meal right around the corner.

Food photographer Jody Horton takes the kinds of images that get your mouth watering and your tummy rumbling, so it's no wonder that he's been tapped by the likes of Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Travel & Leisure, GQ, Esquire, Texas Monthly, Southern Living, and The New York Times to shoot food for them. Here's a small sampling of his work. For more, visit www.jodyhorton.com.
