Oasis, Texas
6550 Comanche TrailThe most elaborate entertainment venue in the area has to be the development now known as Oasis, Texas, offering three restaurants with inviting lake vistas, frozen yogurt at Austin Chill, coffee drinks at Austin Java, chocolates and retro candies at Longhorn Balls, plus a host of galleries and gift shops. We reviewed the restaurants here last year (The Oasis, Soleil Lake Travis, and Uncle Billy's Brew & Que), but this summer Uncle Billy's has added live music on the dramatic upstairs deck on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in conjunction with KGSR, as well as a gospel Sunday brunch with music curated by Michael Corcoran. We dropped in for the second weekend of the new brunch and found a small crowd enjoying the breakfast items, barbecue, and side dish selections on the all-you-can-eat buffet ($18.95 adults/$8.95 kids) while Lady Beatrice Ward & Angelic Voices provided inspiring, Louisiana-influenced gospel with an electrified beat. The brunch food is plentiful and affordably priced, the service is friendly, the view from the comfortable, misted deck is delightful, and the music will have you shouting "Amen!" Not a bad way to start a Sunday or end a weekday at the lake.
