Farm-To-Table Wednesdays at Josey's at the Lakeway Resort

Josey's is the unpretentious sports bar and dining room at the Lakeway Resort. Reminiscent of the late seventies, the atmosphere of the dining room is so dated it's almost "retro"; it's really kind of charming, and the lake view is wonderful. Chef Jeff Axline has been revamping the menu since his arrival, and is striving to bring it up to date with local and organic sourcing, and seasonal menu changes. To further get the ball rolling, a Farm-to-Table dinner is offered every Wednesday: three courses of local, seasonal, chef-prepared dishes for $25. The week I went, the first course was a salad of fresh and pickled farmers' market vegetables (okra, watermelon radish, green beans, beets, and carrots) on a bed of crisp lettuce, garnished with a perfect hard-boiled egg. The entrée was pan-broiled sirloin and charred fresh corn over a hash of Yukon Gold potatoes with a glorious yellow tomato sauce. Dessert was a sinfully rich chocolate crème brûlée with whipped cream. For only $25, it's a really good deal. At around $8 a course, make that a great deal.
