• The Natural Epicurean Academy of Culinary Arts (1700 S. Lamar) offers an open house with info about the professional chef culinary training program. RSVP to [email protected]. Saturday, July 16, 10am-noon.

• The historic French Legation Museum (802 San Marcos St.) hosts a Bastille Day fete complete with live French music and culinary fare such as tricolor macarons and mini fruit tarts from La Pâtisserie by Luxe Sweets. $8 advance at www.afaustin.org, $10 at the door; free, kids 12 and younger. Saturday, July 16, 7-11pm.

Robin Allen, author of the new Austin-based culinary mystery If You Can't Stand the Heat, will do a booksigning with the Austin Writergrrls at Book­Woman (5501 N. Lamar Ste. A-105). Sunday, July 17, 3-6pm.

Vino Vino (4119 Guadalupe) hosts a silent auction of Haitian art to benefit the school-building efforts of the nonprofit Shelters International Disaster Response. Enjoy drink specials while bidding on the paintings. Monday, July 18, 5:30-7:30pm.

• The Summer Chef Series continues at Olivia (2043 S. Lamar) with essential French dishes on the Escoffier Classics menu as well as live music. $95 includes wine pairings. Reservations necessary: 804-2700. Monday, July 18, 6:30pm.

La Sombra Bar & Grill (4800 Burnet Rd.) hosts a three-course winemaker's luncheon with Hugo Martino of Argen­tina's Fincas Don Mar­ti­no winery. $40 per person; all inclusive. Later that day, La Sombra offers a four-course feast paired with pisco cocktails by Johnny Schuler of Pisco Portón distillery in Peru. $65, all inclusive. Reservations necessary for both: 458-1100. Wednesday, July 20, 11:30am and 7:30pm.
