• Chile heads with a flair for desserts will want to enter the annual Chile Fest Dessert Contest from Austin's homegrown Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill (1110 W. Sixth, 476-5355; 9400-A Arboretum Blvd., 346-3506, www.ztejas.com). Recipe judging will take place on Aug. 16, and I'm excited about being a judge this year. The winning recipe in each Z'Tejas market will be featured on the restaurant's menu during its annual Chile Fest celebration in September. Proceeds from the sale of the special dessert will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation, and the first-place winners will receive a dinner catered by corporate chef Jack Gilmore. Second- and third-place winners will receive Z'Tejas gift cards. For complete contest rules and entry forms, go to www.ztejas.com. Entry period ends Sunday, Aug. 9.

• Join folks from the Blanton Art Museum and the new children's TV program Fergus's Funhouse for a Family Fun Day at the new Elevation Burger (9828 Great Hills Trail, 608-4054, www.elevationburger.com) near the Arboretum. The free event will feature kids' arts & crafts projects and storytime with the Funhouse cast. A portion of the price of every hand-crafted milkshake sold during the party will be donated to LifeWorks Austin. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2-4pm.
