For a refreshing preview of the San Antonio New World Wine & Food Festival, stop in at Becker Vineyards (830/644-2681; www.beckervineyards.com) this weekend for the Rambling Rosé tasting event. Sample rosé wines that are perfect for Texas summer parties and picnics, and finish with a tour of the winery. Seating is limited. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tastings at noon, 1:30, 3, and 4:30pm, Saturday, Aug. 18.

Iron Chef aficionados will want to sign up early for the next event in the Eat Drink Watch Movies series of culinary film competitions at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar (1120 S. Lamar). Chef John Bullington will take on challenger chef Reggie Ferguson of Mars Restaurant and Bar. The chefs will prepare dishes to complement Indian director Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, and diners will decide whose cuisine reigns supreme. Profits will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank, and tickets are $75 online at www.originalalamo.com/show.aspx?id=4766. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 7pm.

Local chefs David Garrido and Jack Gilmore head up the list of top restaurants, vintners, and beverage distributors who will join forces to raise funds to end childhood hunger at Share Our Strength's annual Taste of the Nation Austin fundraiser at the Four Seasons (98 San Jacinto) in the coming week. Guests will enjoy an impressive selection of food and drinks in addition to the opportunity to bid on an eclectic collection of silent-auction items. Thanks to generous sponsor support, 100% of the proceeds will benefit hunger-relief organizations. Tickets are $75 at 877/26T-ASTE, or go to www.tasteofthenation.org. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 6-9pm.

The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas and the Round Rock Express have come up with a great team effort. Join them at the United Heritage Center, located at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock, for Field of Dreams, an annual event featuring tastings of a dazzling selection of both sweet and savory dishes paired with premium wines plus a spectacular silent auction of sports memorabilia, rare and fine wines, jewelry, and other luxury items. The event benefits the Miracle League, the Nolan Ryan Foundation, and the educational programs of the Wine & Food Foundation. Tickets are $40 for foundation members, $50 for the general public. Purchase tickets at 327-7555 or www.winefoodfoundation.org. Thursday, Aug. 23, 6:30pm.
