Season's Grazings

Giving the gift of food this Christmas

Your Glass or Mine?

The holidays are upon us. You're having a party. Out come the wine glasses. People are drinking, eating, talking. Pretty soon someone sets a glass down. Then another. Eventually, people start asking, "Is that your glass or mine?" Rather than risk an impromptu germ exchange, they both get another glass. Soon, you're out of glasses. Then it happens some more. All of a sudden, you have to stop your party and wash glasses. Isn't there a solution? For years, the best idea was to put little colored tabs at the base of each glass. Now, we have a better solution, courtesy of a company called StemWear (www.stemware.com ).

Each glass marker resembles an earring for a pierced ear with a dangling charm. Unclip the fastener; put it around the glass's stem and refasten. StemWear makes 64 different designs. All come in theme-based sets of six and are incurably cutesy. For example, the dog lover on your shopping list might like the set "Gone to the Dawgs," which includes a terrier, a dog bone, a fire hydrant, a dog house, a top dog sign, and a bowl. While these things are as far from hip as Wayne Newton, they work perfectly. $20-25 at better wine stores in Austin.
