Pray for More Spay

RECEIVED Tue., Oct. 24, 2023

Dear Editor,
In reply to the opinion left October 20, 2023 by Tawny Hammond, former chief at Austin Animal Services [“Opinion: What's Really Wrong at Austin Animal Services”]: One of the major parts of the no kill directive is low cost spay and neuter. Emancipet is currently the only low cost spay/neuter clinic in Austin and it is not able to handle the volume of people needing their services. People needing a large dog appointment must wait six months for an appointment. Gestation period for dogs is approximately 60 days so do the math. Until more low cost spay and neuter options are available, I don’t believe no kill status is achievable in the current market under any chiefs’ direction.
