Fading Dreams

RECEIVED Wed., March 15, 2023

Dear Editor,
College in Texas, and everywhere, is unaffordable, highly inflated and a joke to students like myself. I’ve always dreamt of college, a career, and success. However, the dream is fading with circumstance: Student loans are smothering Texans, robbing families, and leaving uneducated people to be the norm. Women, poor/low income families are affected the most. Students struggling to pay for college end up trapped in a mountain of unconstitutional, predatory, and immoral never ending debt. An astounding 1in 5 adults have student loans; 4 million people in Texas alone! Texans owe $141B; what would happen if Texas had to send that money to Washington?? Lawmakers like Chip Roy, Dan Crenshaw, Louie Gohmert and Ted Cruz should join John Cornyn on supporting the return of bankruptcy rights to all borrowers.
