People Nonetheless

RECEIVED Mon., Feb. 8, 2021

Dear Luv Doc,
I wanted to thank you for your column. It’s entertaining and written with just the right amount of snark to not be beating the letter writers too much over the head.
Recently, you tackled the Trump supporters vs. everyone else topic ["An Insultingly Simplistic Moral Reminder," The Luv Doc, Jan. 15] and I found your approach to be very helpful. Too often, writers on any side of any issue can get caught up in the “vilify the opponent” mantra. More importantly, your advice to show empathy, find common humanity, and provide time was spot on, as it would be for almost any topic you choose to publish (what an unusual inbox you must have).
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to realize that no matter where someone falls on an issue, that’s exactly where they fall and that they are people nonetheless (perhaps with odd ideas, but still humans and part of the collective “us”).
Have a good day, and I look forward to your columns.
