Conference Correction

RECEIVED Tue., Oct. 6, 2020

Dear Editor,
Please make sure to be a professional reporter and double check the names for your articles and not make an assumption that you heard something right especially when covering events that focus on Black people. Good reporters and photographers are not too lazy to check the information. Do it right the first time.
Your article from the Black Genealogy Conference has some errors that need to be corrected now [“On The Ground at Austin's First-Ever African American Genealogy Conference,” News, Feb. 7, 2020]. The name is Dr. Beulah A. Jones where you have Dr. Beulah Dukes. Articles have been written about Dr. Jones and her late husband in the past in The Chronicle. Look it up.
The photo cutline for your photo needs to be Mrs. Ada Stewart Harden, East Austin Historian, Arlene Youngblood, retired Huston-Tillotson University Fine Arts Chair and professor, Dr. Beulah A. Jones, and Mr. Volma Overton, Jr. If we were all white - the names would be listed.
Respectfully submitted,
Arlene L. Youngblood
