Bruegger's Is the Best

RECEIVED Sun., Jan. 14, 2018

Dear Editor,
As a fellow Jersey Girl, I appreciated the Chronicle’s “Coming Full Circle” article on Austin’s expanding bagel culture [Food, Jan. 12]. I must point out, however, that one of the best sources for authentic N.Y.-style bagels, Bruegger’s Bagels, in West Lake Hills, was not featured in the otherwise informative article. As an all-too-frequent customer at Bruegger’s, I can attest to the high quality of the bagels and the friendly owners. I served their bagels at my daughter’s bat mitzvah, and even my family from the East Coast were impressed at the perfect mix of crispy inside and chewy inside. Sure, Bruegger’s is a part of a national franchise (so is Chuy’s!) but, it is locally owned and operated by a mother and son team from Albany, New York, who are involved in the community supporting nonprofits like Mobile Loaves and Fishes and displaying art by local artists, while donating a portion of all sales to the local schools.
