Dear Editor,
Thank you for running “Planned Parenthood Sues Texas Over Anti-Choice Bill SB 8” [Daily News, July 20]. This is an important issue that has far-reaching consequences. Senate Bill 8 will outlaw dilation and evacuation abortions, a safe and routine operation. As a woman in Texas I am not only afraid for my own health, but also for the health of the 13 million Texan women who could have their lives derailed by this unjust and unconstitutional law. I know that I am not alone in my fear.
Anti-choice legislators have come out against this bill calling it “reckless” and having “nothing to do with maternal health.” I have seen the devastation that anti-choice legislation has caused throughout Texas, where women already struggle to receive safe and cost-effective reproductive health care. I hope that Justice Kennedy recognizes how important it is that he stays on the bench, but I am afraid when the lives of 13 million women are treated so carelessly.
Now is the time to turn our fear into action, and make sure our legislators know that we will not stand for any attacks on our fundamental right to health care. Now is the time to stand up for ALL Texans, because in Texas we take care of our own.
