An Unrelated Note ...

RECEIVED Tue., June 6, 2017

Dear Editor,
I enjoyed Tim Stegall's article on Spoon [“Sign o' the Times,” Music, June 2].
However, I would like to clarify a completely unrelated comment relating to Beck's 1994 SXSW show.
There was in fact quite a line for Beck's show at Emo's. My friend and I tried to get in, but due to fire code regulations (i.e., the place was packed due to Johnny Cash) they weren't letting anyone in unless someone left. And nobody was leaving during Johnny Cash, so not only was there a line, but it wasn't moving an inch.
We tried the back alley entrance but were told the same thing.
Determined to get in (and only 17 at the time) we scoped out the abandoned property adjacent to Emo's (to the east) which allowed us to peer over the wall and leap into Emo's while the staff wasn't looking. By saving the entry fee us poor high schoolers were able to purchase Beck shirts, and I still have mine today.
