Dear Editor,
I was delighted to read your recent article on the current state of health care for Austin's transgender community [“
They Called Me 'It,'” News, April 14]. Thank you for this thoughtful piece.
As the article correctly notes, Kind Clinic is a program of Texas Health Action (formerly Austin PrEP Access Project). Kind Clinic is a full-service sexual health and wellness clinic that provides access to PrEP/PEP, STI testing and treatment, and wellness exams.
As executive director of Texas Health Action, I want to make the important distinction that “gender care” is not a separate clinic from Kind Clinic. We use the phrase “gender care” in reference to a specific set of hours dedicated to providing gender-affirming services in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Gender care is a new service category offered at the Kind Clinic, not a separate entity. We are very proud to be the first in Central Texas to offer these services.
