Not a Separate Clinic

RECEIVED Thu., April 13, 2017

Dear Editor,
I was delighted to read your recent article on the current state of health care for Austin's transgender community [“They Called Me 'It,'” News, April 14]. Thank you for this thoughtful piece.
As the article correctly notes, Kind Clinic is a program of Texas Health Action (formerly Austin PrEP Access Project). Kind Clinic is a full-service sexual health and wellness clinic that provides access to PrEP/PEP, STI testing and treatment, and wellness exams.
As executive director of Texas Health Action, I want to make the important distinction that “gender care” is not a separate clinic from Kind Clinic. We use the phrase “gender care” in reference to a specific set of hours dedicated to providing gender-affirming services in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Gender care is a new service category offered at the Kind Clinic, not a separate entity. We are very proud to be the first in Central Texas to offer these services.
For more information about Kind Clinic and the services we offer, please visit www.kindclinic.org.
