Not Human

RECEIVED Wed., March 23, 2016

Dear Editor,
As a human being, I am sickened by the attack on innocent people in Brussels. As a practicing Muslim, I am also sickened by the false notion that terrorists think there is a “reward” for suicide bombing in the hereafter if they commit such a heinous act. If Islam was the religion of these criminals, then they should be aware that terrorism has no place in it. Prophet Muhammad once said, “God will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to people.”
As a member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I believe in Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India whose advent was foretold by the Prophet Muhammad. Ahmad emphatically declared that the doctrine of violent jihad goes against the teachings of the Holy Quran and the practice of the Holy Prophet of Islam. Ahmad once said, “A religion which does not inculcate universal compassion is no religion at all. Similarly, a human being without the faculty of compassion is no human at all.”
I am embarrassed to even call these perpetrators Muslims since they lack all qualities of even being called human.
Nadia Ahmad
