Dear Editor,
Bill Carter ranks as the most generous person I've ever met [“
The Unknown Soldier,” Music, May 3]. About four years ago, my wife and I were enjoying a great Wednesday night set by Bill Carter and Stephen Doster at Z'Tejas. After the show, we struck up a conversation with Bill and talked about our daughter's musical talents and asked his recommendation on where to buy a used guitar for her. Without hesitation, Bill said, “I want to give you one of my guitars that will fit your daughter's hands perfectly.” My wife and I were thinking, "Yeah, right," but Bill said, “Call me in the morning and I'll meet you.” So I called Bill the next morning, and, after refusing our money, he gave us a beautiful black Takamine, which my daughter uses to this day. Memories of Bill's kindness and generosity remind me of what it means to be a true Austinite.
