Deadly Daisy Red Ryders

RECEIVED Thu., April 4, 2013

Dear Editor,
The March 15 "Lege Lines” [News] reported on Austin Rep. Eddie Rodriguez's attempt to require that all Texas firearm sales be subject to federal background checks, but for some reason failed to address the rather obvious insults to the Fourth and Fifth Amendments inherent in a system which allows any random stranger to make a phone call and, by pretending to be a firearm seller, have access to any individual's criminal (and – because disqualifiers include mental health issues – medical and civil) background. This seems like something of an oversight.
It may also interest you to know that the stock photo accompanying the article – of several "guns" laid out on pavement (presumably from one of the laughably ineffective exercises in deck chair rearranging known as gun buy-back programs) – shows at least eight airguns, including three classic Daisy Red Ryders. Good to know little Ralph won't be putting his eye out with those deadly engines of destruction.
