In Favor of Staples

RECEIVED Mon., March 19, 2012

Dear Chronicle,
I find it really ludicrous as to how readers are recommending to stitch or not to stitch. You may or may not recall many moons back, Editor Louis Black, my comment to the Chronicle questioning as to why the Click and Clack [“Car Talk”] column had been cut from your weekly distribution. And included in that comment, I remarked about the new saddle stitching of the Chronicle. At that time you seemed to be surprised that anybody would notice the stitching, and there was a Chronicle comment in that regard. Perhaps many others noticed the stitching/stapling, but did not comment. But since my background is in the printing industry, I would readily notice. And immediately notice that some weeks stapled; other weeks, not.
My vote is in favor of the stitching/stapling. If somebody is grabbing your weekly and dissecting it to obtain single sheets for – well, you know – for bird poop, shame on them.
