Dear Editor, I went to the Downtown library recently. I was asked to leave because I was carrying a small piece of plywood about the size of a skateboard. I explained to the security guard that it was a piece of art that I had been working on for the last month. He told me that it was "considered a weapon.” Considering the library is full of books that one could just as easily hit someone with, I find it akin to telling me my artwork would make the library more of a fire hazard. I've been sick of hearing him badger people for wearing hats in the library for some time. Accosting people for their headgear and artwork doesn't make us any safer. It just demeans us and gnaws away at our freedom. Enough is enough. I don't appreciate being treated like a suspect just for walking into a public building.
