Take It Back From People 'Not Like Them'

RECEIVED Fri., July 30, 2010

Dear Editor,
It shouldn't be that difficult to understand that the tea party movement wants to take back the country from "somebody not like them." Meaning white, middle or working class, mainly male, and over 50 years old. The somebody not like them can be black, Hispanic or Latin, liberal, highly educated, and nonreligious. If you recall, during Sarah Palin's run for vice president, she kept highlighting "real Americans" in her speeches and emphasizing Middle America as people she can relate to (as though Indiana doesn't have illegal aliens, liberals, drug dealers, abortions, etc.). This tea party movement is about not liking the change going on in America, which is moving toward a multiethnic look and feel. The recent immigration law in Arizona reflects the sentiment to take our country back from immigrants (Latinos in this case). I feel this is just the beginning, and more anti-establishment sentiment is coming our way. In one way, it's nice to see that a black man has become the establishment being railed upon. Power to the people!
