More Political Parties Would Be Good, but the Ones We Have Are Different

RECEIVED Tue., March 23, 2010

Dear Editor,
I have always agreed with having a third party and a fourth and so on. Although as long as we only have just two, I still contend that there are major differences between the two. The GOP is known as the party of the wealthy, and they just proved it easily. They chose to listen to their insurance handlers instead of the American people. The Democrats are known as doing things for the good of the public domestically. They just proved that, too. The health care reform bill is not perfect, obviously, but it is a starting place. There are many more similar examples if one cares to look in times past and present. Both, as long as we are a capitalist society, are owned by big business to a degree. Just one of the prices to pay for being a capitalist society. I prefer the Democratic Party over the other guys because a little bit of that dollar seems to filter down to good programs for the public, not just the wealthy. As long as realistically we are limited to two parties, I will always have a preference no matter how flawed my party may be.
