Let's Send Them Back

RECEIVED Wed., Feb. 17, 2010

Dear Editor,
Why doesn't the tea party just leave the United States and go start their own country since they are so disgruntled with this one? Oh – but it's already been done, and there is a book about it, called Lord of the Flies. The book was so popular a song came out too: "Piggies," by the Beatles. The movie was called The Sorrow and the Pity. The so-called tea party movement has nothing constructive to offer and doesn't know what it is for, only what it is against, because in truth what they are for is just themselves. They don't want to share the wealth. They don't want to pay taxes. They don't care about the poor, the marginal, the most vulnerable of society. They don't want anyone in the market to be held accountable because they don't want to be held accountable themselves. They just want what they believe is their due. They say they want to go back to a time when America was free (whites only), when there wasn't so much regulation (sweatshops, child labor, even worse pollution), when government was small (Great Depression, Spanish flu). Well then, I propose a solution: Let's build a time machine and send them back.
