Are We Just Slaves to American Megacapitalism?

RECEIVED Wed., Dec. 2, 2009

Dear Editor,
As someone who accepts that climate change is happening – but I've never said it was all due (or even mostly due) to humans – I'm left with the question: "Who benefits from abandoning the fossil-fuel economy?" Yes, I understand that these shadow groups (Illuminati, Bilderberg, Council on Foreign Relations/Trilateral Commission, etc.) presumably want to enslave the people, but if most of these are the same people who already control the fossil-fuel economy, why would they try to fudge the climate data? I can see them exposing the "hoax" in order to halt or slow the headlong plunge into solar/wind/alternative energies – plus the fact that according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 focusing on nuclear power, proposed carbon taxes/cap and trade would promote energy generated by nuclear power – not something the tree-huggers out there are in favor of (www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/91xx/doc9133/toc.htm).
I also notice that corollary to global warming, peak oil, seems to have fallen off the radar lately.
OK, so climate change is not as bad as believed and doesn't justify on its own massive changes to how humans get their energy, because face it, it ain't the caribou and the otters or snail darters or Frampton's bleating grelbs buying all those flat-screen TVs and making their homes into "Griswolds" for Christmas; it's people. Isn't figuring out how to deal with things like drought and famine worth looking into – unless you're one of the Bushes or Henry Kissinger or a Rockefeller or whoever who just wants billions of people to fucking die already so us rich old white folks can have a little elbow room?
Given that, for the most part, America's bloodiest wars have been either in the quest of big business or the suppression of communism (or both, upholding good Republican conservative Christian family values along the way), some alternative to fossil fuels should be desired, you would think … or I guess we really are just enslaved to American megacapitalism, the profits-above-all-else variety that has taken over the world (you will buy gasoline; you will pay what we want; you will like it!)
Is that it in a nut's hell?
