We Don't Need Law to Empower Bicyclists

RECEIVED Wed., July 29, 2009

Dear Austin Chronicle,
Re: Senate Bill 488, the Safe Passage bill [“Perry and the Demise of Safe Passage,” News, July 24]. Just what I don't need. A law that will empower the bicyclists, who run stop signs, stoplights, and cut in front of me, to think: "I'm protected. Whatever stupid thing I do will be the driver's fault!" This is nothing but an underhanded attempt to give now-legally innocent bicyclists a weapon in lawsuits. We don't need more laws; we need common sense.
