Lou Perryman's Death Is a Great Loss

RECEIVED Sat., April 4, 2009

Dear Editor,
The terrible and strange passing of the actor Lou Perryman is an enormous loss to the Austin creative community. His sweet, lovable, and quirky persona summed up what South Austin is all about, and he will be missed by all of us who knew him.
Just recently, he appeared in a live Q&A at the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz for the re-release of his first movies, the short "A Hell of a Note" and the feature The Whole Shootin' Match, both directed by Eagle Pennell. It was the latter movie that spurred the entire indie film scene and the Sundance Festival, and the success of the movie was due to Perryman and his co-star Sonny Carl Davis. He was in The Blues Brothers movie and helped set up the bar scene with the chicken wire. At least we will have memories on film like that and his appearance in Poltergeist to help remember this great Austin actor.
