Dear Editor, I was trollin' around on MySpace a couple days ago, and an old Army buddy of mine found and added me. In turn, I found another soldier I was stationed in Cuba with on his buddy list. He turned out to be a lifer, and has four years left until retirement. Then the idea hit me: Since we are offering enlistment bonuses to people that join or stay in, and we are still facing recruitment shortfalls, maybe we can talk the Department of Defense into giving our soldiers overtime for tours of duty in hostile zones? Say two years counted for every one year stationed in war-afflicted areas, and counted as time in service toward their futures. That should help relieve the re-enlistment issues faced in today's military as well as help convince civilians interested in serving our still-great nation. War is hell, by golly, lets give 'em what for!
