Well-Being of Our Friends – People and Dogs

RECEIVED Thu., Oct. 18, 2007

Dear Editor,
While I have no dog in the hunt for a new location for the Town Lake Animal Center, I do have an intense interest in finding homes for some of the dogs that will undoubtedly be put down at the facility. In response to that unappetizing prospect, Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center is in the process of developing a new program called WOOF! (Well-Being of Our Friends!), in which the goal is to match Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center clients with dogs from Town Lake Animal Center. Research shows that having a pet is most beneficial to a person's emotional stability, and it is our hope that ATCMHMR can help provide such stability to those in need while providing loving homes for some of the city's canine population. Anyone interested in more information or assisting in our efforts can get in touch with me, and I'll be happy to sit up and beg for your attention.
