Time for a New War Czar

RECEIVED Sun., April 15, 2007

Dear Editor,
Who among us believed that the Bush plan called “surge” would actually work? I personally believe that the escalation of the war was a bad idea, as was the pre-emptive war itself. Let’s see what Bush has wrought, because since the escalation, the deputy prime minister was blown up inside his own secure compound. I find this to be a bad result. Now the Iraqi parliament was blown up in the Emerald City in Baghdad. We have been told that the Green Zone is the only absolutely secure place in Baghdad, which has been true until now. Now, I can only hope we can assume that there was a second level of security in the parliament building. The bomber got inside the Green Zone and inside the Iraqi parliament building with a bomb and detonated the bomb, further proof of what a bad idea the escalation is. Now let's talk about the recent causality rates among our troops. We are losing an average of five coalition troops a day, a marked increase this April, the list goes on and on. And to boot, all tours of duty are to be extended. This is what the Republican Party calls “supporting the troops.” The final worst idea is the appointment of a war czar in an effort to compartmentalize President Bush from his own bad, ill-conceived, and poorly executed idea to invade Iraq. This is just “stay the course,” except bigger. The American president is the war czar. I agree with President Bush; it is time for a new war czar. How about you?
