Idiotic Neo-Leftist Mortal Coward

RECEIVED Mon., Jan. 30, 2006

Dear Mr. Black,
Notwithstanding an erudite exhibition of your knowledge of obscure poets (except for Edgar Allen Poe) in the Jan. 27 “Page Two”: Earth, Stones, and Thorns of the Wild Ground Growing, you have once again shown your well-honed ability to delude yourself and placate your comrades. You have pompously paraded the art of taking a snarky and morally ambiguous stand on the profound issues you catalog in your piece.
As one of the writers whose work you use in your cynical prose to display True American Visions: Right Wing Poetry, I challenge you to directly address these life and death matters.
Be brutally honest with yourself and the rest of us. Focus on these few issues and be explicit in your positions. Are you tolerant of neo-leftist utopians, moral relativist Marxists, suicidal pacifists, or chic anarchists? Don't those who tolerate these morally bankrupt ideologies aid and abet the most recent mortal enemies of civilization – devotees of Islamist fascism? Don't you understand that these malefactors burn to return humanity to the 11th century, to impose worldwide Islamist tyranny, to transform women into subhumans, and to enslave or execute all homosexuals, free-thinkers, and non-Muslims? Don't you recognize that America is the only nation capable of defeating this genocidal threat? Aren't these realities the results of the ever-escalating assaults by Islamist fascists on America for the past 25 years? Isn't this mortal threat the virulent legacy of the September 11, 2001, attacks on America? Don't you agree that at this time America and the free world are in a global war with Islamist fascists?
I don't believe you have the courage to be precise about your positions on these issues. If you are you will either be proven an idiotic neo-leftist utopian or a closet neo-conservative. Even more pernicious for you, if you are not specific you will be proven a moral coward. I am betting on the latter. Please understand that I hope I am wrong about that. I am calling your hand Mr. Black. Be a moral hero and lay your cards clearly on the ideological table.
Truly,
Vance McDonald
[Louis Black responds: Call me slap-happy but I had thought that I had made my positions, both specific and general, redundantly clear over the course of a couple hundred "Page 2" columns.]
