Brandon Deserves a Chance

RECEIVED Fri., Nov. 18, 2005

Dear Editor,
I would like to first start off by saying thank you for bringing this story out of the trash bin that Williamson County calls a file cabinet [“Justice or Vengeance?,” News, Nov. 4]. It seems these things go on quite often in a great town that I grew up in.
I know this kid very well. I say kid because he grew up for years as the boyfriend of a girl I call my little sister. Throughout the time he was with Kate Giesy, I was with her sister Krystie. We spent many hours laughing and joking with each other. One of the times I remember Brandon [Threet] bending over backward to help me out was when my car needed a stereo. He had a group of his friends over and they all proceeded to spend a Saturday afternoon doing nothing but working on my equipment. This is just one of the times Brandon reached out to help a black man! Yes, I am black! You would not have even known this in writing, would you? Well this is the way Brandon thought of me and other blacks that he knew.
I'm going to end this letter by saying please ... please ... please pull this kid out of the shadow that has been cast upon him by an unjust ruling. He knows what he did, but I guarantee he will spend the rest of his time here on earth making right of what is wrong. He deserves that chance!
Sincerely,
Tre Dotson (a black man!)
