Parking Concerns

RECEIVED Tue., Sept. 20, 2005

Dear Editor,
The ACL Music Festival is fast approaching and will likely be a great event for the music fans and associated businesses. Unfortunately, for those who live in the area, the three-day event is a burden, due to the uncontrolled parking. Robert E. Lee Road, Barton Hills Drive, and adjacent streets will have “No Parking” signs posted along with an orange vested teenager in a lawn chair for enforcement. Cars will be parked within inches of the “No Parking” signs on both sides of the streets in addition to the parking lots of the many apartments in the area. Every possible parking space will be seized without regard to the rightful owner, and without enforcement or penalty the signs are no more than a polite suggestion. APD seems to grant carte blanche to ACL parking violators. Having lived in the area since the inception of the fest, I have seen this problem worsen over the years sans any signs of improvement or regard for the local residents.
